Message to our patients – update on the COVID-19 booster programme

 Across Sussex the NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.

All adults are eligible from Monday 13 December, and you will be able to book via the National Booking System from Wednesday 15 December.

You can book your booster for 3 months from the date of second vaccine, and you can access the National Booking System to book the appointment from 2 months.

We are working at pace to increase the availability of appointments so that there are plenty of options for people on the National Booking System. Some local vaccination services may will also contact patients directly. 

New appointments are being added every day across our vaccination services. We have been offering more than 80,000 appointments a week and in the last two weeks we have increased the number of available appointments by more than 10,000 a week. Further availability will come online from Wednesday 15 December. 

We will be working with all of our sites to take further steps to increase what they can offer again, including opening later and on more days.

All of these appointments will be added to the National Booking System and so we encourage everyone who is aged 18 and over, is yet to have their booster and who is approaching 3 months from your second vaccine to use the National Booking System to arrange your appointment when you are able to do so.

In terms of any planned appointments with Little Common Surgery & Old Town Surgery, there are no changes at the current time and everyone should attend your planned appointments as normal. If we need to make any changes, we will contact you directly.

Covid Restrictions Update from Monday 19 July 2021 

We are aware of the planned move to lifting the remaining Covid restrictions in England from 19 July 2021. 

Healthcare settings are a higher risk environment and will need to be subject to more infection control measures than other public facilities. 

Current Public Health England guidance outlinig the requirements around masks states: ‘Face coverings are needed in NHS settings, including hospitals and primary or community care settings, such as GP surgeries.’

To help protect everyone, we ask that you continue to wear a face covering, socially distance and use the hand sanitiser when attending the Surgery.  

Our staff will continue to wear surgical face masks for the same reason. 

The current Covid variant is much more transmissible and patients may come to the surgery when they are unknowingly contagious.  It is our duty to do all we can to keep both our patients and our staff safe whilst we deliver care.

These measures remain in place to ensure we can continue to deliver safe services to you, our patients.


Your NHS Data Matters - 1st June 2021 Your NHS Data Matters

There have been posts on social media with false information about opting out of sharing your data with the NHS.

Here's what you need to know;

  • There is no 30th September deadline for opting out of sharing your data. You can opt out at any time.
  • NHS digital will never sell your data.
  • There are strict rules about how the NHS can use your data. It is only shared securely and safely.
  • Shared data helps the NHS. It has been used to find the first treatment for coronavirus and for vaccine research.

From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from: 

It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use these services.

If you cannot access these online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive.

This practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.

When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID19 status when travelling abroad on the website. Make sure there is time to get  proof of your vaccination status before you leave.

Order free Lateral Flow Tests (home testing kit) 16.04.2021

You can now order free lateral flow tests to be delivered to your home. 

Around 1 in 3 people have Covid-19 with no symptoms. 

Rapid lateral flow tests help to find cases in people who may have no symptoms but are still infectious and can give the virus to others.

The test usually involves taking a sample from your tonsils (or where they would have been) and from your nose, using a swab. You can get a result in 30 minutes.

Practice Statement - March 2021

As you will understand, all GP Practices are currently under a great deal of pressure ensuring that we book our patients in for their covid vaccination as soon as possible after we have deliveries of the vaccine.  We usually get a maximum of one week’s notice of the date of delivery and quantity of vaccines that will be delivered; this then leaves us with three to four working days to book in up to 1170 patients. 


While we would love to be able to take the time to discuss with each of our patients the merits of vaccination/investigate why a patient has been placed into a particular cohort/explain why a particular illness or occupation does not automatically indicate priority for vaccination, this is not feasible due to the demands on our time as indicated by the short turnaround as detailed above.


Our cohorts are dictated by a national mandate.  Our clinical systems have searches in place that determine which patients fall into which cohorts.  While you may have heard in the news or on social media that the vaccine is only being offered to particular age groups or cohorts, this may vary on a local basis.  If certain cohorts have already been exhausted, we still have a duty and a moral obligation to utilise the vaccines that we have delivered to us in a timely manner.


It may be that you have requested a call back from a GP or the Practice Manager to discuss issues pertaining to the Covid vaccination programme.  If that is the case, please be advised that this notice will be our final response to your query.  As has been the case since March 2020, we are having to make best use of our time in light of the increased pressures we are under.  We thank you for your understanding.
